New Book by Dorie Clark & LinkedIn LIVE This Thursday!
The Long Game is a Wall Street Journal best seller two weeks in a row!
One mistake I’ve seen many smart people make over the years is focusing too much on past success, and not enough on how we’ll continue to learn, grow, and give back. You can’t ever be happy living a life that’s about “what used to be.”
That’s why I’m so pleased that my good friend Dorie Clark has written an amazing new book from Harvard Business Review Press called The Long Game: How to Be a Long-Term Thinker in a Short-Term World that is out NOW! This concept is so important because, if we’re going to end up with the careers and lives we want, we all need to start cultivating a more long-term view.
I am looking forward to discussing The Long Game and other fascinating topics on this LinkedIn Live with #1 Communication Coach and my friend Dorie Clark!
Join us on LinkedIn LIVE this Thursday, October 14th at 1pm ET / 10am PT!
When Dorie interviewed me for the book, I talked about how I got my start working for Paul Hersey, a wonderful organizational behavior consultant who was my mentor.
I was making great money working for him, but one day he called me and told me, “You're too successful. You're making too much money, and you'll never going to be who you could be. This is not bad. You have happy customers. You're doing a good job and you'll do okay, but you'll never be the person that you could be. You're not writing. You're not thinking. You're not investing in your future. You're just running around like a chicken with your head cut off, selling days.”
And I have to say, he was right! I didn't change. It’s very hard when things are going well, and you're comfortable, to challenge yourself. I wasn’t creating content and ideas that could leave a legacy. Dorie teaches you how to avoid this trap! You'll learn how to be working your current job and working toward the future you want.
Dorie’s book The Long Game: How to Be a Long-Term Thinker in a Short-Term World is available now and you can also download her wonderful free The Long Game strategic thinking self-assessment. I recommend it!
Life is good.
